Department at a Glance

Dayanand Science College is the oldest and one of the few single faculty science colleges in the Marathwada Region. The Department of Physics was one of the first independent departments formed in DSCL. It was established in the year 1961.The department has major contribution in the development of the college. Department of Electronics and Department of Computer Science were established under the umbrella of this department in 1978 and 1999 respectively. At present both of these departments are independent The Department caters to the academic needs of many Physics aspiring young students. Currently, there are five faculty members headed by Dr. V. A. Chaudhari. He is assisted to Dr. Vishwanath D. Mote, Miss. S. D. Lokhande, Dr. M. B. Pandge, Dr. S. D. Birajdar, Miss. M. W. Aatram two more faculty Mr. L.H. Kathwate and Miss V. S. Chandak for P.G. on contract basis. The Department of Physics is supported by DST-FIST, UGC-CPE and RUSA. In the Department of Physics there are two Disciplines one at undergraduate programs leading to the degree of B. Sc. with Physics and the other at Post graduate programs leading to the degree of M. Sc. with Physics.  The Department also has 8 Research Guides and 19 Research Scholars working in “Thin Film & Material Science Research Laboratory” affiliated to Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded leading to Research Degree (Ph.D.) in Physics. There are four laboratories for undergraduate students and Two for post graduate, one among which is exclusively dedicated for electronics experiments. The Department provides research facility in the field of thin films and Materials Science with amenities for synthesis and characterization of thin films & nanomaterials.

History of the Department

Department of Physics at the Dayanand Science College, Latur has the distinction of being one of the oldest and one of the few single faculty science colleges in the Marathwada Region.  Shri. K.H. Purohit continued the office of HOD till he was appointed as the first Principal of the independent Dayanand Science College in 1967. He initiated the development of the infrastructure of Laboratory as well as the academics. In 1967, Shri. R.H. Ladda took the charge of HOD. He continued the development of the department under the dynamic leadership and guidance of Principal K.H. Purohit. In the tenure of Shri. R.H. Ladda the department progressed vertically and horizontally. In the year 1978, a new applied subject “Electronics” was started as one of the optional subjects at UG level. Shri. R.S. Namjoshi, Shri. S.H. Jaju and Shri. S.V. Deshmukh took immense efforts in establishing the Laboratory of Electronics. The college was one of the only two colleges, offering Electronics at UG level in the Marathwada University, Aurangabad at that time.

In establishing and developing the Computer center Prof. S. V. Deshmukh and faculty of the Dept. have taken enormous efforts. The staff members, who have contributed to the department with their noteworthy services and retired, are Shri. R. S. Namjoshi, Shri. P. V. Kulkarni, Shri. S. H. Jaju, Shri. A. D. Kalkote, Shri. S. V. Deshmukh They all were excellent teachers in their subjects.
While in the office of HOD, Shri. R. H. Ladda was appointed as the third Principal of the college. After his retirement as Principal and HOD, Shri. S.H. Jaju took over the charge of HOD in the year 2000. He was assisted by Shri. S.V. Deshmukh as I/C HOD of Electronics and Computer Science. Then, Dr. L. V. Thakre took the charge of Head of the Department  from 2016-2023.  After that the Department is now housed in a new building of Laboratory Complex and then Captain Dr. V. A. Chaudhari took the charge of Head of the Department. He is assisted to Dr. Vishwanath D. Mote, Miss. S. D. Lokhande, Dr. M. B. Pandge, Dr. S. D. Birajdar, Miss. M. W. Aatram and two more faculty Mr. L.H. Kathwate and Miss V. S. Chandak for P.G. on contract basis.

Following were the HODs who contributed their valuable services to the Department of Physics.
